Tomorrow PPL DIE

Tomorrow, I am forced to drag myself out of my library/den/office/room and join the laymen in a boisterous and unruly street parade we call the "Ati-atihan Sadsad". Sadsad is the Akeanon (my town's dialect) term for...uhh...well, basically, it describes the unruly street parade where people (some of which are drunk) loudly rock the street for the benefit of the deaf saints...at least, that's what my nine year old niece used to believe. You can google Ati-atihan to have a better (and less insane) understanding of the whole thing. Apparently, it's also the time of the year when everyone loses their mind and join in the fun. Roads are closed and we all resort to walking miles and more stupid-ass miles under the unforgiving heat to get to where we want to be. It's torture but more fun with all the craziness and the traveling and the noise.

Earlier, Khalleen and I already practiced walking around town. We walked around in circles and were amused at all the street decorations. Well, for the most part, I was. We then tried to find a place to eat lunch but everywhere was crowded. Mang Inasal, Ted's, Jollibee, Greenwich, Ramboy's, the food court, and even Grain Baker's! Mr. Donuts was creepily out of customers but they don't serve anything for lunch...just donuts, hence the name. Fortunately, Lorraine's was serene so we ate there. YUM! It's going to be our hideaway this Ati-atihan season.

We also witnessed the annual Higante (Giant, because the stars of the show are gigantic statues of aetas that are made from indigenous materials and moved through trucks and the like) parade but because Khalleen is so short (HA! SHORT!), she couldn't see much of the dancing people in costume. We headed back to the mall to eat some ice cream and then went home.

Tomorrow, the entire school (the literate majority, anyway) will be parading around town but I've already implied that on the first sentence of this post. Whatever. I'm gonna bring lots of fluids so I don't pass out in the middle of the street like a drunk whore. I'm also going to dance, to avoid being tagged as an out of place moron, and Khalleen's going to do the Rexona (HAHAHAHA!). I am so friggin' excited! ...or it could just be the coffee I took before I wrote this thing. BAIZ.

I AM GONNA WEAR A COWBOY HAT!
